AMEOGHCEA is a regional movement amplifying the voices of East Africa’s resource-rich host communities.

We defend land rights, promote equity in extractives and energy, and empower women, youth, and grassroots communities to turn natural wealth into lasting opportunity. Together, we drive sustainable development through justice, innovation, and inclusive growth.

Our Mission

To transform extractive zones into centers of peace, prosperity, and people-led progress through justice, empowerment, strategic regional security, environmental stewardship, and accountable governance to advocate for fair policies, empower grassroots leadership, protect environmental rights, and ensure communities benefit from the wealth beneath their feet.

Our Vision

We envision just, equitable, and resilient host communities in East Africa where people/communities lead their own development, thrive with dignity, and benefit fully from the wealth beneath their feet guided by justice, indigenous knowledge, environmental stewardship, and inclusive leadership.

Our Goals

To strengthen and influence environmental policies, laws, and frameworks at all levels, while providing rapid protection and legal empowerment for Environmental Rights Defenders (ERDs) and communities at-risk  and promote gender-inclusive strategies to address environmental injustices

Our Objectives

  • Build partnerships and increase collaboration among Environmental Defenders by providing them with capacity building trainings and workshops, mentorship programs, meetings to strengthen their relationship

  • Collective advocacy and awareness campaigns to address the existing Environmental issues within the communities

  • Build capacities of environmental defenders through training and workshops on advocacy, legal rights and sustainable practices

  • Provide legal support and resources to environmental defenders including training, mobilize for legal aid funds to support the defenders.

  • Strengthen community action by mobilizing grassroots/communities and supporting/promote community led initiatives that solve environmental issues

Thematic Areas

  • Advocacy and Awareness campaigns: We develop/organize advocacy and awareness campaigns addressing environmental issues including deforestation, pollution, poor waste management 

  • Research and policy Development: we develop policy documents from an informed research conducted on environmental injustices/challenges facing local communities to advocate for policies at local, national and international level.

  • Legal empowerment and support: We equip defenders with knowledge on their rights and environmental laws,policies and frameworks to support their work and we collaborate with legal organizations/entities to provide support to the defenders.

  • Capacity building trainings and community empowerment/mobilization: We give support to grassroot communities/individuals to build and promote community based solutions and organize and mobilize communities to address local Environmental issues
